6/19/2019 0 Comments DIY Little Passports: ItalyBongiorno! Our homemade World Explorers Club is all about appreciating the many places around the world, and our latest stop is Italy! It’s May with the end of school and an upcoming trip to Hawaii and California, so I’m freaking out on timing and the lack thereof. I didn’t do any extra activities besides what I could find in the science books on Galileo’s experiments. With Italy’s rich history and culture, I had plenty of engaging resources from the library to include in addition to our most expensive souvenir, so I didn’t feel like I had to do more. Our little Explorer was able to open it with time enough before our trip, and here’s what she found!

6/16/2019 0 Comments Maui Day 7: Aloha OeSunday we went to church, slept the day away, and watched a couple of movies while eating chimichangas and English muffins. If I could do the trip over again, I’d spread this relaxation around throughout the week or nap each day. At church they sang a very touching goodbye song Aloha ‘Oe while exchanging a fond embrace and saying “Until we meet again” to those who were leaving. It was so special and powerful seeing a people so united. Definitely one of my favorite memories of Hawaii is the feeling here from the people.
6/12/2019 0 Comments Maui Day 6: Ahihi Kinau SnorkelingEither our GoPro skills improved over our vacation, or there were just too many amazing photos on this snorkel trip! These were taken at a very special place near Makena, called the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve, a land and water protected area where no fishing or development is allowed. The limited human activity means the reef was healthy with the least amount of bleached coral we’d seen our entire trip! There was an awesome variety of marine life we enjoyed swimming with in the open areas. Our most magical encounter was with the endangered Hawaiian monk seal which followed us around for a while (and freaked me out honestly, because I didn’t expect to see one at all ever and it was a lot bigger than I thought as it checked me out)... Now I know how scared animals must feel sometimes when we’re checking them out, haha! Jeremy took some coffee-table-worthy pictures, including the seal’s face! Follow us on our underwater exploration of these gorgeous marine life in the photos below.
We had another big day with amazing photos from Maui, which still don’t do justice to the beauty of their source but maybe your imagination can fill in the blanks...Read on for the sunrise at the Haleakalā Crater, 3 amazing eateries, and fabulous snorkeling at Kapalua Bay Beach.
6/10/2019 0 Comments Maui Day 4: Turtle TimeWe missed turtles since there weren’t any while snorkeling at Molokini Crater yesterday, so today’s mission was to spot turtles! Turns out where we were staying in Wailea, there were lots of beaches nearby where we were likely to see turtles! We made a list of about 4 and decided that we would go to at least Keawakapu and Ulua which were on either side of our resort.
It’s been a dream here in Maui. We decided to do another early morning activity our second day while we still had the time zone adjustment on our side. The Road to Hana is Maui’s epic drive of winding roads and one-lane bridges rewarded with hidden waterfalls, beaches, charming towns and markets, tropical rainforests, and much more... The photos you’re about to see were so beautiful I would have thought they were fake if I hadn’t seen these places with my own eyes. It’s recommended to break up the drive into at least 2 days so you can fully appreciate the many gorgeous views, hikes, and places to play—and so that you’re not driving dangerously in a rush. “It’s about the journey, not the destination” really helps the Aloha Spirit on this adventure that can be stressful at times. All that being said, if you do try the Road to Hana in one day like we did, we still had an unforgettable time! Read on for photos.
6/8/2019 0 Comments Maui Day 2: MolokiniMaui has water activities for everyone! We loved snorkeling in Maui every day we could—it’s super fun and cheap! We found that each snorkel spot had its own special features and types of wildlife so it was great to be able to experience a variety. Molokini boasts 150-200 foot visibility since there’s no sandy beach to muddy up the water, just a straight down extinct crater! There’s also calmer waters on most days year round because of the crescent shape protecting it from the waves. You can only get here by boat, so we made the splurge and booked a tour for an all-day experience of this special place.
6/7/2019 0 Comments Maui Day 1: ArrivalGetting to Maui was an adventure for us! The ideal time for our flights, hotels, and weather was going to be between May and June which happened to be really close to when school ended—actually we ended up leaving the day school got out (note to self never do that again because you will be dead driving through the night and packing for hours after a long day at work), and road tripped to California to leave our kids with my parents. We packed our carry-on only, borrowed a GoPro camera from them, and took an early shuttle to the airport, and then boarded our flight which we weren’t sure Jeremy was going to get on until the night before!
6/6/2019 0 Comments Maui Travel DiaryJeremy and I celebrated 10 years of marriage by getting away to Hawaii for 7 days! We’ve been looking forward to it for months now, and it all went by kind of fast. We road tripped with kids to Grandma & Grandpa’s the night that school got out, then flew out of Los Angeles. The last time we vacationed like this was our honeymoon! Here are some highlights, click the links for each day to see more pics about that adventure!
