7/23/2019 0 Comments Utah’s Hogle ZooOur summer would not be complete for our family without a trip to our local zoo! It was our animal-loving 2 year old W’s first time, and our first visit in years so there were some changes at the zoo since we last visited—all good things! I love that there’s more shaded areas and fans, upgraded enclosures with more space or better viewing for animals, more creatures to visit, and lots of fun art and exhibits to look for. They removed the grassy area where we used to picnic, but also added more shaded chairs and tables for the eateries. The zoo is generally a “kid place” but Jer and I had so much fun, too!

I'm busy planning a birthday and baptism! My little girl inspired this tropical design that I love. The geometric shapes feel more modern and trendy! The birthday girl was ecstatic at how they turned out, and helped me send them out to family and friends. Everything about it feels like her... sweet, elegant, artsy, all her favorite colors, happy vibes, and Hawaii. After traveling there for the first time, I know she would have loved the weather, water activities, animals and plants, food, people, music—everything! We already had a Luau Moana party for her birthday a couple of years ago, but this year would be a bit more grown up. She is, after all, almost 8 years old! It's a special year because she decided to make some wonderful promises and be baptized a member of our church. In the scriptures it's described as "entering the waters of baptism"—a perfect match for her summer birthday. We took photos at the park in her special white dress that she will wear afterwards, and I can't get over how beautiful she is inside and out. My baby is growing up too fast! I made this design pretty enough to work for any special event! See it at the shop here.

Manoa ahoana! That’s Malagasy for “hello” at our next stop on our World Explorer tour, the island of Madagascar. Madagascar is famous for its plant and wildlife, most which are only found on this island! The Malagasy people are also very unique, especially with their customs for honoring their ancestors. Check out what we got for this month’s package to learn about this amazing island!
7/12/2019 0 Comments Birthday Boys in CaliforniaMay 30. We would be out of town during our boys’ birthdays so we celebrated a few days prior at my parents’ house with my family! It was special since we don’t see my family that often, plus the kids were stoked about road tripping to California. It was also my younger brother’s actual birthday AND Memorial Day—a quadruple whammy! My boys (turning 2 and 4) had plenty of cupcakes, action figures, toys big and small, and lots of love from Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunts and Uncles. Not bad for celebrating at home away from home!
Our last time at Provo’s Balloon Festival was 3 years ago (read about it here and here)! In celebration of Independence Day we took our kiddos for W’s first year seeing the hot air balloons. The balloons filled up but didn’t end up flying because of winds, but they were still fun to watch fill with hot air!
7/5/2019 0 Comments DIY Little Passports: JamaicaTo learn and grow from places around the world, we started a homemade project, the World Explorers Club. This month takes us to Jamaica in June! Not gonna lie, putting this package together was a serious challenge—I almost gave up, furiously working on it until the very last day of the month. L kept asking if her package came every day the last couple of weeks... so sad it took so long to finish. Although I had already bought the souvenir it didn’t seem like enough and I wanted to include something meaningful. Also, how to navigate many of the “non-kid-appropriate” stuff Jamaica is known for (aka a long history of slavery, piracy and prostitution, rum and weed, the economic divide...)? We concentrated on kid-friendly spots like Luminous Lagoon and Dolphin Cove, the concept of “out of many, one people”, Jamaican world-famous food, and of course Bob Marley.
Summer break does require some winding down at home for us. Time to bring out the Christmas and Birthday gifts that haven’t been played with in a while! Time to try out some new toys, too, and have some special moments along the way.
Last time we saw some cool splash pads, and a pioneer village. This post brings you more great kid-friendly activities we’ve done this summer, from meeting kangaroos to our own local “beach”.
Dinosaurs, water guns, and pioneers... oh my! Summer break opened with a big trip, and since then we’ve had daily adventures with the kids—far too much fun for one post, haha! (But seriously, I literally can’t add any more text or photos.) Putting both classic favorites and new adventures on the Summer Bucket List gives us something to look forward to every day. We have breaks from our vacation, too, because naps and laundry keep the fun going... My kids love water, animals, reading, and being active so those will show up this summer! My preferred activities are low cost (free or inexpensive), not too crowded (many free events attract lots of people but it stresses me out not being able to find my kids right away or waiting at free events), and a few eclectic or hidden gems hopefully!
