11/22/2017 0 Comments Sweet Potato PieI didn't think that I should post this without a photo because it certainly is a gorgeous dish for your Thanksgiving table, but this recipe is too good not to share! When we make it again I will update it with the photos it deserves. For now, you'll just have to use your imagination or put in the (very easy) effort! Recipe: Grandma Enid's Sweet Potato Pie

11/21/2017 0 Comments DIY Little Passports: The Idea
Came across this cute subscription service from years ago which sends packages for your kid to learn about different places around the world. It was too expensive for us then, and it's unfortunately too expensive now. The globetrotter idea resurfaced because our little girl (age 6) is very much interested in science and geography.
I looked into what's included in the Little Passports kits, and thought, "I could do that!" This is not a new or unique idea, and I'd love to combine some fun stuff to share with my kid because I, too, yearn to travel and learn about other parts of the world. This project would require me to research other countries, think up some fun activities, recipes, and souvenirs, and write a personalized letter to my kid every month. If you're considering doing something similar, hopefully whatever work I put into it can be useful to you in bonding with and getting to know your little explorer.
11/20/2017 0 Comments Baby BlessingThis special milestone is a time to reflect on our hopes and thoughts for our baby. Daddy gets to officially give our son a name and a father's blessing. The bishop encouraged us to write down our thoughts and feelings to be a source of strength for our son if he were to read them. I'm including mine here:
11/19/2017 0 Comments The Tooth Fairy Strikes AgainA second tooth already! This morning as my daughter was super excited about another tooth growing in, to my horror it was growing in sideways because there wasn't enough room with the old tooth in the way! Years in the future flashed before mine eyes—the braces, the scrawny and semi-naked but straight-toothed children from paying inordinate dental bills, future dentists tsk-tsk-ing the Mom and saying, "If only she had pulled that baby tooth out in time..." And that's when I told her, "I know you may not feel ready yet, but that tooth's got to come out this morning."
11/16/2017 2 Comments If You Marry A High School Teacher...Dedicated to my husband the high school teacher; laugh it up, baby! If you marry a high school teacher... he'll probably ask you to the prom or homecoming every year (as a chaperone, of course).
All that excitement will have you discussing fundraising ideas for next year, so he might ask for a pen to write them down. He can find them in the drawer dedicated to all the pens he accidentally brings home. 11/12/2017 1 Comment First Tooth Fairy VisitThis kid has been talking about her tooth being loose and wiggly for over a week now, yet when Daddy finally pulled it out this morning because it was bothering her, I was still not prepared for this day. L was super excited for her first ever visit from the Tooth Fairy! She wrote a letter letting the Tooth Fairy know what happened with her tooth and why it was there under her pillow, and asked for a whole dollar. Lucky for her, the first tooth is extra special so she gets more for it... or maybe it was Sunday when we don't go shopping and a dollar bill was nowhere to be found.

When we first started the Keto diet (low-carb, high protein) it took a while to find ideas, try recipes, and figure what works for us. What can we eat? I grew up in a home where rice was served with every meal (even breakfast), and those carb-happy habits are hard to break. Eating more vegetables and protein is healthy for my breastfeeding goals, and also allows me to be full longer. I'm not strict about the diet, but I have definitely cut my level of carb and sugar craving by following it in support of my husband's health.
Then there's the conundrum of how much time this new diet will take. There are some picky eaters in our family, but I'm all about simplifying rather than making 2-3 meals for dinner. The below meals do not have cheese as a main component because my family isn't into cheesy. We can't be off buying armfuls of ingredients to make substitutes to try every new recipe, so these recipes contain ingredients you hopefully already have or shop for anyway without having to go to specialty stores. Here are some of our tried-and-true favorites on the weekly rotation to get you inspired! He looks at us with love and recognition, and apparently he's ticklish all over his body! I've started playing with him between a diaper change and a feeding, especially lifting him up and having him jump or do what I call "thunder thighs". He loves it! He laughs and smiles, coos, and babbles— sometimes he even shouts while talking like he's frustrated and reprimanding us. He sleeps with us now instead of in his crib because it means I can just feed him while laying down, and he doesn't wake up freaked out that he's alone in the dark. The competition is still on for who he looks most like, but I think Lily may be the winner.
