A Trolls Party invitation has been on my list for quite some time now, but I’ve told you how I don’t work on stuff unless I’m inspired. It seemed like the other designs available were super cute and there was no need to add something unless it was unique. I didn’t figure out something special to make until recently when my sweet little girl asked to draw with me, and we just had a blast making dinosaurs and trolls.

I love Harry Potter and remember when it first captured the imagination of the world 20+ years ago. My aunt was raving about it, and I thought what a strange thing that a children’s book could entertain an adult, and I was curious. Somehow I got a hold of a copy, then didn’t leave my room, eat, sleep, or go to the bathroom until I finished. I couldn’t wait to see what happened to “the boy who lived”! Pretty sure I could summon a Patronus charm using all the happy feelings I have from my Potter-filled childhood. But then there was a break—the series got dark, and my parents I banned it from the house so I didn’t get to rediscover how it ended until many years later when I watched the movies and figured the book must be way better. This design was so fun to brainstorm and wanted to make an illustrated design that was fun, colorful, and unlike anything you could find elsewhere for Harry Potter. The fun is in the details! I wanted to hide a lot more, but there comes a point when you have to feed your kids and do laundry.
We are over the moon for our daughter who just turned 7! She is such an amazing kid, we love her so much! The only thing she asked for was a party where she could invite all her friends, so we had an out of this world celebration for this Space-loving birthday girl. We have such a large family that we haven’t really ever done a birthday with friends. I involved her in the planning, and gave her the option of going to a bounce house in a space themed room or the arcade, in the hopes that I could minimize the work involved since we had a renovation and my sister coming to visit and no time to party plan. Ultimately she asked to do a home party where we could have “science activities”. Thanks to my genius husband, my sweet sister, and the amazing birthday girl herself for making this possible!
I actually had a dream about the layout and design of these invitations for a Greatest Showman themed birthday or party. I saw the words with the top hat and pink hair, and the amazing and unmistakable costumes. After a preliminary search to see if someone else had beat me to it and decide if I just needed to make a much better one, I was surprised to find nothing. My kids (and husband) love the movie musical. Jer hates musicals, but this is his only exception thankfully! The first thing I did when I woke up was tell him about my vision, and he thought it was a great idea so read on to check it out.
6/26/2018 1 Comment Jane Austen Tea PartyIt is a truth universally acknowledged that two girls with a penchant for tea parties must be in want of a Jane Austen theme. My bestie Victoria had a hankering for a tea party since it’s been at least a year since we last had one. Jane Austen sprung from my British mood lately. She loved the idea and we were both super excited to plan it—maybe a little too much because we both might have gone overboard as you will see below haha!
My boys will be turning 1 and 3 next week! It's a very exciting time as we reflect on how much they've grown and changed this year. It's also the start of birthday season at our house (all of our birthdays are during the warm months) and Mama's excited to plan a special joint birthday party for the boys, especially since last year Little Guy's birthday took a back seat to Baby Brother's birth. They are close enough in age and young enough that they share the same guests and like most of the same things. At the top of their list is Cars, especially Lightning McQueen. I've been creating some fun birthday party stuff inspired by my sweet boys for their party, so read on to see!
4/30/2018 0 Comments Cupcake Wars for Activity DaysOur Mother-Daughter Activity last week was a fun Cupcake Wars Competition. We were super impressed with the creativity of these girls!
4/24/2018 0 Comments Lizard 6th Birthday PartyIt’s been an action packed weekend starting with a couple of birthday celebrations! My dear friend Victoria is at it again and put together a fun-filled lizard birthday party that my kids absolutely loved. The birthday boy got a real bearded dragon and setup from his family a few days prior, so his party matched! Victoria didn’t have to make the cake this year because she won this cake in a service auction (so smart!). This delicious moist chocolate cake turned out beautiful and perfect for the Lizard theme!
Part of designing fun party invitations is figuring out wording! We love puns haha. Dinosaurs are inherently NEAT to me so it was challenging to think less is more! I’ve been wanting to create a girly printable for some traditionally boyish party themes, and what better theme than a Dinosaur Girl Birthday Invitation. These are not your ordinary dinosaurs—they are party animals complete with their celebratory hats! I had a dream last night about how the boy version of this would look like. It was cute!! Can’t wait to update this post with the design.
4/2/2018 0 Comments The Logo of the PartyI guess a graphic designer should have a logo for their shop :) Otherwise it’s like that hairdresser who gives the false impression that they don’t do fine work because their own hair is never stylish... or does that actually mean they dedicate themselves to their craft to the point that they don’t have time or energy left over to personally benefit from their own talent? In my case I figured the time to do my own hair—I mean, logo!—was Spring Break. And why stop there? Why not make a new banner, too, and banish all the ghosts of wedding guest books past? Make way for the new party printables! You can see the new logo at my shop here. Read on for more updates.
3/23/2018 0 Comments Hawaiian Luau PartyI thoroughly enjoyed this Hawaiian Luaua for the Relief Society Birthday Party. Many of my friends are on the committee that puts it together and I love what they did! If you’re looking for some great ideas for your next Hawaiian luaua, tropical, or summer get together check out the lovely details these ladies pulled off.
Ahoy, It’s a Boy!Many moons ago we were beyond psyched to find out we were having a baby boy and that our little girl was going to be a big sister! Yes, I am posting this almost 3 years later haha, but it’s as meaningful now as it was then... This adorable baby shower was given by my best friend Victoria, who is amazing in every way. I was scared and had zero clue about raising a boy, but with a little boy of her own she was there with support. This shower was so special to me because although plans took a very different turn, it was all about celebrating our baby.
3/19/2018 0 Comments Irish Pub St. Patrick’s Day PartyI’m so glad you don’t have to be Irish to share in the festivities of St. Patrick’s Day because I really look forward to Jeremy’s mashed potatoes and Irish soda bread every year! Back in the day when more of my husband’s family was living nearby, it became a really fun tradition for the really “white” ones to throw the Cinco de Mayo party and for us the “Mexican definitely not Irish” ones to host the St. Patty’s party. All in good fun, eh! This year our troll from Norway took a backseat on the bookshelf with L’s rainbow so that we could try a different theme.
3/14/2018 0 Comments Doc McStuffins Birthday InvitationI realize my daughter who was once into all things Doc McStuffins might be moving on, but designing this invitation really brought me joy imagining what throwing her a Doc McStuffins birthday party might have been like. Learn from my mistakes—throw a Doc McStuffins party for your adorable kiddo before they grow up on you. And oh hey, here’s a freaking cute invite for it!
