1/23/2018 0 Comments DIY Little Passports: HawaiiAloha! Hawaii is the first destination in our DIY Little Passports project to share new places with my young explorer every month this year! Special Delivery for a Little ExplorerFirst, my kid loved getting something unexpectedly. One day after Christmas I told her she got a package in the mail from Hawaii, and who did we know in Hawaii that might have sent it? I also told her it said Part 2 of 2, so where was the first part? The Letter and Activities are... Missing! The first part should explain the package and have all the printed items like the letter and the coloring pages and a recipe for us to try... but I haven’t gotten around to having them printed yet or even knowing what to write! She still asks if the first package has arrived or if it’s still lost in the mail. The SuitcaseI spent a month trying to find a container for everything and on the day we were leaving to travel it was too late to buy something. So while I wrapped presents and packed the car, I wrapped a shoebox in wrapping paper and made a handle out of many layers of brown paper. Kids are easy to please because she loves her mini suitcase! She’s always toting it around. PassportMy explorer now has a Passport, train tickets, and luggage tags she used to decorate and attach to her mini suitcase. It also came with a sticker for the USA that she put in her passport. She also completed information for her driver’s license and credit card, all essentials for traveling. SouvenirsHawaii was the first destination because my sister included some items in there she wanted to send L for Christmas. I want to thank her for being so kind and generous with her experiences and mementos that made this so special. For example, my sister included this beautiful authentic Hawaiian lei that L treasures. My sister also formed an ornament from a real pearl necklace, and added a few fun Hawaiian themed note pads. Travel and Science BooksL is very much into science right now and was thrilled to find books about Hawaii and the volcanoes there, as well as a Chapter Book about a real Hawaiian princess. See the rest of the DIY Little Passports series here! Her first kit has kept her busy the entire month, and we’ve learned so much about the beautiful islands that make up Hawaii. She loves her suitcase and shows it to every friend that comes over, asking them if they knew that it came all the way from Hawaii...
