11/8/2019 0 Comments Mama RetreatMy sister is pregnant with her second child, and super excited to be having a girl! She recently earned her degree after many hours of online study and a busy internship, and completed a stressful move with packing, cleaning, and moving everything only a week before we took this photo. As far as she knew there wouldn’t be a baby shower, though it sounded like she really wanted one. After some sister-to-sister talks, we realized she had most of the things she needed—she was just burned out. In lieu of a baby shower, my other little sister and I did a Mama Retreat for her at my place! We took care of transportation, food, and activities so my sister didn’t have to worry about anything except enjoying herself. Her husband even got on board to help watch their kiddo so she could get away! Day 1: PeaceMy husband got the day off so he could help me with sending kids to school and taking care of them so I could leave earlier (and therefore get home sooner!). That was such a big help and surprise for me since he never takes days off even when he’s violently ill! We got the okay from my sister’s doctor for her to travel with me as long as she took a break every hour to stretch her legs, walk around, and use the restroom. Thankfully her in-laws were able to cut my driving time by meeting me! I packed my favorite roadtrip snacks, music, and we had fun just talking the whole way to my house. My daughter was so sweet and volunteered her room so that my sister could have her own private space to relax. I took her out to lunch at Cubby’s (she was feeling a salad/sandwich) and then we headed to the temple! The last time we had been together doing temple work was when she got married. Recharging spiritually brought her peace and it was nice to rest from all the cares of the world. I took her to my favorite dessert place for some warm pumpkin cookies and a cold glass of frosted almond milk before heading home for dinner. I had made a slow cooked chicken curry with rice, so it just needed to be warmed up when we ate with my family. Day 2: PamperingOne of my sister’s favorite things to do is get her nails done. She hasn’t done this for quite some time, so the first stop was a gel mani/pedi at this beauty school. They did such a great job on her nails that I bought one for me later! While she was at her nail appointment I met my sister-in-law, who is pregnant with her first boy and done with her girl clothes. She gave me a GIANT tote full of the cutest baby girl clothes for my sister! The tote was so giant that it wouldn’t fit in my trunk and we had to lower part of the back seat to make it fit! After lunch, my sister and I were able to go through them and she was so happy she was crying! Afternoon tea at Taste was a highlight! My sister loved the variety of seasonal treats, and I loved having a full teapot of their chocolate mint tea! I didn’t cook, clean, or prepare anything other than make a reservation and dress up—definitely my favorite way to feel pampered! I scheduled her first prenatal massage ever in the evening. What a treat for all those aches and pains of pregnancy! What’s more pampering than a healthy home cooked meal? Nutrition is so important to my sister, especially in her pregnancy. My husband was craving a light meal so I made a delicious lemon pasta with spinach, an apple radish cucumber salad with mint lime dressing, and a store-bought Sunflower crunch salad with bacon (one of our family favorites). The kids ate everything, too! My sister went home glowing! We love her and her family, and are so happy we were able to have this time with her. Best on your new bundle!
