9/15/2018 1 Comment Mermaid Birthday PartyGrowing up, my favorite character was Ariel the Little Mermaid, so the child in me was jumping up and down at everything at my niece’s Mermaid themed birthday party. It took months of preparation since all the food and gorgeous details were handmade with love by her Mom (Ashley), but seriously a picture is worth a thousand words here. We were transported to an underwater world of balloon bubbles, jellyfish lanterns, hanging seaweed, and a giant clam shell shaped floatie to celebrate an amazing little Mermaid turning 3! My sister in law Ashley is so extra and I wanted to just hug her guts out knowing how much work she did and how magical it turned out. Mermaid Treats and SweetsAshley and our sister in law Ashlyne made all these gorgeous and yummy treats! Mermaid Rice Krispies, Pretzel sticks, clam shell cookies, chocolate candy shells, and a fondant covered mermaid cake! Displayed on a cake platter, these Mermaid themed rice krispy treats dipped in chocolate and decorated with shell-shaped candy stood up inside serving cups stuffed with Hawaiian bread rolls! The lollipop sticks made it easy to poke into the bread so the treats could be upright, and it was mess-free fun for little hands. Such thoughtful details! Ashley sandwiched colored frosting and a gumball between two cookies for an adorable clamshell with pearl treat. I love how they were served on this starfish shaped platter! I thought this cake turned out super cute! Ashley made marshmallow fondant, rolled it out, cut it into circles, dyed them different colors, and then layered them on to create a Mermaid scale pattern. It’s also decorated with brown sugar sand, chocolate candy sea shells and pearls, and a golden cake topper. Under the Sea Mermaid Party DecorationsI love this balloon arch! Not only did Ashley choose a lovely variety of cohesive colors and finishes (I sure do like the shiny ones!), but the balloons were also filled to different sizes for depth. Ashley told me it took her maybe 20 minutes to build and was so easy. Her confidence makes me want to try it at some point! Her secret? A balloon pump, a strip of plastic with holes in it from the party store for about $5 that you can easily arrange all the balloons in, and a stand she uses for photography to hold up her backdrops. She ordered the backdrop from eBay! Ashley got this awesome floatie on summer clearance! It served as a wonderful prop for guests to take photos, the kids to play on, and finally the Birthday Girl to open her presents at. The bubble balloons are a lovely touch, and were strung together with fishing wire that she suspended from the ceiling. Also featured are jellyfish lanterns made with paper and cut up plastic table covers, plus the shimmery streamers and paper fish. A Mermaid string piñata sits atop a cake stand, inviting guests to take a gumball or Mermaid rice krispy treat. I love the touch of the shimmery blue table cover, the fishnet table runner, and the large golden confetti that brings a sparkle to the table at every angle. Party like a MermaidEverything was so pretty. I think the Birthday Girl enjoyed her gift! Even at age 3, she already loves jewelry. The Dads strung the piñata onto a broomstick so the kids could pull the strings for candy. Mermaid Party Favor Treat BagsThe Mermaid favor bags were a huge hit with the kids. Each guest had a personalized assortment with a Mermaid tag and everything in a shimmering luster plastic treat bag tied with aqua colored ric rac. Ashley was very thoughtful in her favor selection and included things that were age appropriate and that she remembered loving as a kid. The babies got yogurt treats and bubbles, the kids got “magic towels” that grow in water, pencils, and the older kids got notebooks in the shape of their first initial decorated with mermaid scales. My little artist loves it, and that it comes with coordinating pencils! If you’d like to see Ashley’s other fabulous parties, she put together this Alice in Wonderland First Birthday Party, too!

Amazing photography! And that's such a well done mermaid theme done by Ashley and Grant. I wish we could have been there!
